There is no grant for replacing a gas boiler in Ireland. If you need a new gas boiler, you will need to cover the installation cost yourself or consider finance. That does not mean replacement is always the wrong choice: a more efficient boiler, a clear fixed-price quote and an honest comparison with repair can help you keep the overall cost down.

Spread the cost with finance

GB Gas Services offers finance through humm. This can spread the cost of a replacement over agreed payments rather than requiring you to pay the whole bill at once. Approval and repayment terms are set by humm, so finance is not guaranteed and it is not a grant.

Before choosing a plan, check the deposit, repayment amount, term, interest, any fees and the total amount repayable. A smaller monthly payment can be easier to manage, but a longer term does not necessarily mean a lower overall cost. Visit our boiler finance page for the available options and discuss the final quote before applying.

Can a replacement pay for itself?

A modern condensing gas boiler recovers heat from the exhaust gases that an older non-condensing boiler lets escape. When correctly sized, installed and controlled, it can use less gas to deliver the same useful heat. Savings are usually greater when replacing an inefficient older boiler than when replacing a relatively recent condensing model.

Lower gas bills and fewer breakdowns can offset some or, over time, potentially all of the replacement cost. However, there is no guaranteed payback period. Your current boiler's condition, heating use, gas tariff, insulation, controls and installation cost all matter. If you use little heating, savings may take much longer to cover the bill.

Compare the complete installation price with realistic annual savings, rather than relying on a headline efficiency figure. As a simple calculation, divide the installation cost by estimated annual savings to understand the approximate payback period, while allowing for servicing, finance costs and future energy-price changes. Get a fixed-price quote before committing

GB Gas Services quotes new A-rated boiler installations from €2,950 + VAT. The final price depends on your home and the work required. Moving a boiler, changing the boiler type, altering the flue or upgrading pipework and controls can affect the total.

A survey and a fixed written quote make those costs clear before work starts. Ask what is included: removal of the old boiler, installation, system cleaning, commissioning, warranty registration and safety paperwork. Confirm whether VAT and any additional work are included in the total you will pay. Comparing like-for-like quotes is more useful than comparing the price of the boiler alone.

When a repair makes more sense

If your boiler has an isolated fault, is otherwise reliable and parts are available, repairing it may be the better-value choice. Age alone is not a reason to replace a working boiler. An engineer should assess the fault, overall condition and likely future reliability before recommending a new installation.

Our Boiler Repair Dublin visit costs €140 for the call-out, diagnosis and repair labour; replacement parts are extra and agreed before fitting. If the boiler is also due a service, service and repair together cost €195, with any required parts discussed separately.

Replacement becomes more worth considering when faults are recurring, a major repair is expensive, parts are unavailable or efficiency is poor. Ask for both the repair cost and the replacement quote, then weigh the immediate bill against expected running costs and reliability. Gareth Bushe can help you compare those options without assuming that a new boiler is always the answer.
